CloudPress 2025 Year in Review

2025 has been a busy year for the team at CloudPress. We focused heavily on building tools to help our agency and service provider customers deliver the best possible WordPress hosting experience, and sharpened our focus on what we want CloudPress to be. Here is a look back at what shipped, and some of the challenges we faced along the way.

  • Account Management & Reseller Tiers: We launched full account management features, enabling an unlimited number of dependent sub-accounts. The system supports two levels of resellers, giving our partners the flexibility to grow their own reseller network.
  • Direct Payments & Custom Pricing: Resellers can now set their own custom pricing and seamlessly link to their Stripe account to accept payments directly.
  • Custom Branding & White-Label: In late 2025, we launched our new custom branding feature, allowing for a fully white-labeled CloudPress experience, making our platform truly your own.
  • Supporting Large Enterprise Providers: We launched a new offering for large service providers that operate their own networks. This is a fully-managed, standalone, CloudPress environment designed for an on-premise, fully dedicated setup.
  • User Roles & Invitations: We introduced granular user roles and an invitation system, allowing site owners to invite other users to manage their sites with limited, site-specific permissions.

The Bunny.net Migration: Speed and Sovereignty

We successfully completed our migration to bunny.net for our Content Delivery Network (CDN), a change that brought immediate benefits to every customer.

  • Free Protection & Performance: Included free with all sites is access to bunny’s global CDN, Bunny Shield (a robust Web Application Firewall), and full DNS zone management.
  • Direct Management: We built direct integrations into the CloudPress UI, including detailed network and shield visualizations, and comprehensive DNS management tools.
  • EU Data Sovereignty: This migration allows us to offer a truly European solution for organizations that require EU data sovereignty, providing an optional EU-only routing option for the CDN.

Just a few more things…

We also shipped some smaller, but equally important, customer-requested features.

  • Cache Management: Manage all levels of your site’s cache from our interface
  • File Manager
  • Cloud Shell
  • Log Viewer
  • Detailed Resource Charts

But we also faced some challenges…

Rebuilding our Free Trial Process

For years, our cloudpress.new instant launch was a great way for new users to try us out without any commitment. Unfortunately, the feature was increasingly abused by bots and malicious users for spam and phishing. This forced us to temporarily disable the instant trial to protect our network.

A Secure New Start: We returned to the drawing board and launched a completely new free trial process in late 2025. The core change: trial sites are no longer accessible while logged out. Users must be logged into WordPress to view the site, and the file system is placed into partial read-only mode, preventing modification of the WordPress core installation; plugins and themes can still be installed. The result? We have seen little to no spam since the relaunch.

Tracking Down the “Self-DoS”

In November, a few weeks of severe network degradation plagued some sites. After intensive debugging with our network operators, we tracked the issue to a handful of misconfigured sites DOSing themselves.

The Technical Deep Dive: In a traditional environment, a site calling itself locally wouldn’t affect the network widely. However, because we terminate SSL at our network edge, this internal traffic targeting the domain was forced to leave our environment, loop back through the network edge, and pass through our NAT gateway. This created an identity crisis: our network security layer was incorrectly categorizing this boomerang traffic as malicious bot activity, causing the degradation. We successfully adjusted our security protocols to identify and allow this essential internal traffic.

Looking forward to 2026…

We have bold plans to further strengthen our agency and service provider offering, including exciting new products and strategic partnerships. We look forward to sharing more details with you in early January.

Until then, happy new year!
